PTSD Specialist/Program Coordinator

VA Healthcare System

Dr. Cara Zuccarelli Eggers is a clinical psychologist with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Specializing in post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), she coordinates a wide range of services to veterans from all eras, with the goals of recovery and independence.

Throughout her career, Dr. Eggers has shown considerable interest in the impact of environmental stressors on human behavior. This interest is perhaps, most exemplified by her dissertation work at Loma Linda University where she studied the effects of the spaceflight environment on the acoustic startle reflex. While her work focused on risks to astronaut health, changes in this reflex are also symptomatic of PTSD. Her work there resulted in a graduate student poster award at the annual meeting of the American Society of Gravitational and Space Biology in 2002 as well as several publications in well-respected, peer-reviewed scientific journals.

She graduated from Loma Linda University with a doctorate in psychology.
